Abstract

Systematic measurements are presented on the negative thixotropy of partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide solutions in a water/glycerine mixture. The time dependence of the viscosity is obtained as a function of the shear stress for a large range of polymer concentrations. The results are analyzed in terms of our model for negative thixotropy in polymer solutions described in a preceeding paper [10]. The experimental results are shown to be in agreement with the model calculations to a large extent. It is demonstrated that improvements could most probably be made by including a multimodal relaxation time spectrum into the model.
