Abstract

Unknown reaction channels in the translational energy spectrum of Ar2+ ions produced in Ar3 or=+/Ar electron capture collisions are identified by reducing the electron energy in the ion source below the threshold values for the production of different excited Ar3+ projectile states. The advantages of this near-threshold translational energy spectroscopy method, as well as final results for the Ar3+/Ar collision system, are described.
