This study examines the integration of Islamic values within the local wisdom of the Baduy Indigenous community. Its focuses on cultural and religious harmony, utilizing a descriptive-analytical method to explore the socio-cultural and religious dynamics reflected in scientific texts and documents. This research employs a qualitative approach through a systematic review of relevant literature, including scientific journals, books, research reports, academic articles, official documents, and previously published interviews (Mills & Birks, 2017). The primary data consists of literature directly addressing the interaction between Islamic values and Baduy traditions, while secondary sources provide additional context regarding the social, historical, and religious dimensions of the community. The qualitative data analyzed includes narratives, concepts, principles, and interpretations of customary and religious values as practiced by both the Outer and Inner Baduy groups. The thematic analysis was employed following an inductive process, emphasizing textual comprehension alongside a contextual and reflective interpretation of the integration of Islamic principles, while also recognizing the distinctiveness of Baduy customs. Through this methodological framework, the study contributes to the development of a theoretical model for understanding cultural and religious harmony, supported by comprehensive and in-depth literature analysis.

  • Feb 25, 2025
  • International Journal of Management and Business Economics
  • Dasep Supriatna

Operational efficiency in Islamic Higher Education Institutions (IHEIs) requires the integration of technology that is aligned with local wisdom and Islamic values. This study, framed by Contingency Theory, aims to identify adaptive integrative strategies for institutional contexts. A qualitative case study was conducted on four IHEIs in Indonesia, selected based on geographical variation and institutional accreditation status. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 16 key informants (institutional leaders, heads of IT units, and faculty members), as well as analysis of 24 institutional policy documents and strategic plans. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns of technology integration with Islamic values and local culture. The results show that the effectiveness of integration depends on the contextual conditions of each institution. For example, one institution integrated a digital learning management system with character-building modules based on Islamic boarding school values, while another institution adapted its digital platforms to the structure of the local traditional organization. Theoretical implications suggest the need for contingency-based managerial flexibility in Islamic education governance. Practical implications point to the importance of developing technology policies that are responsive to the religious and cultural values of institutions. This study confirms that the success of digital transformation in IHEIs is not solely determined by technological capacity, but by the institution's ability to adapt strategies to its socio-cultural and spiritual context.

Relationships between religious work values, sustainable work behaviours and sustainable energy consumptions
  • Oct 16, 2017
  • Management Decision
  • Mastura Ab Wahab

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine to what extent religious work values such as Islamic work values (IWVs) could have an influence on sustainable work behaviours and sustainable energy consumptions among employees in the workplace.Design/methodology/approachData were collected through survey questionnaires. The sample consisted of 264 Muslim employees who work in the private and public organisations in Malaysia. Structural equation modelling was conducted using a second-order model.FindingsThe results showed that religious values (i.e. IWVs) have a significant relationship with sustainable work behaviours and sustainable energy consumptions. The effect on sustainable work behaviours was stronger than its effect on sustainable energy consumptions.Practical implicationsThis study suggests that the policy makers and pundits should pay attention to employees rather than focussing on just the CEO or the managers as the key players in the industries. This would help reduce the emissions of greenhouse gasses and other environmental degradations.Originality/valueWith regard to sustainability, past studies have mostly used general values rather than religious values in analysing work behaviours or energy consumptions. Furthermore, most previous studies have used behavioural intentions in their theory and concepts when explaining sustainable behaviours. This study extends the literature by conceptualising the value-attitude-behaviour theory which focusses on actual behaviours rather than on intentions in explaining the effect of religious work values on sustainable behaviours and energy consumptions.
