Abstract
Laser induced fluorescence from resolved rovibrational levels (ν′,J′) of excited I 2 B 3Π(O + u) state has been observed. Lifetimes for vibrational levels ν′=18–20 of individual rotational levels have been measured by direct observation of fluorescence decay, and self quenching cross sections for selected levels have been obtained. Lifetimes were found to be smoothly dependent on ν′. No linear dependence of 1/τ 0 with J(J+1) was found. Results are discussed in terms of gyroscopic and hyperfine predissociations.
