Abstract (a) A State that is a party to Additional Protocol I is prohibited from using means or methods of warfare in a military operation, including a military space operation, that are intended, or may be expected, to cause widespread, long-term and severe damage to the natural environment. (b) Although there is no consensus among States, there is support for the proposition that States should apply the law of armed conflict in a military operation, including a military space operation, with a view to protecting the natural environment.
