Abstract

Dr. I. L. Kosin, Department of Poultry Science, The State College of Washington, Pullman, was awarded the 1954 National Turkey Federation Research Award. The presentation was made at the annual convention held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, January 15. The award, which is presented annually, consists of $500 and an engraved plaque.In making the presentation Dr. J. H. Quisenberry, Texas A and M College, chairman of the award committee, stated: “The basis of the award to Dr. Kosin is the large amount of research he has done toward the improvement of reproductive performance in turkeys through the breeder selection and control of environmental conditions such as lighting and heating. The most outstanding single piece of work done, which in itself merits receipt of the award, is research on the early embryonic mortality of Broad Breasted Bronze turkeys and emphasis on the necessity of recognizing these early dead embryos in order to …
