Abstract
The U.S. National Science Board (NSB) has proposed in a draft report the creation of a focused, sustained, and multi‐agency government initiative that would enhance the nation's ability to predict, mitigate, and respond to the effects of hurricanes, several board members announced at a 29 September briefing.Steven Beering, chairman of the NSB, said, “This is a critical area for national science policy that requires a focused research effort to address the destructive social, economic, and physical infrastructure impacts from hurricanes…We have experienced altogether too many in the last few years.”
