Abstract

The dynamic magnetic moment method is employed to determine the field strength distribution of a thin-film ring head for high-frequency magnetic recording. The field is found to be broadly distributed in the track direction. The sharpness of the distribution is improved by adopting an appropriate processing gap and a side-erasing pole. These techniques are thus useful for narrow-track recording. The micromagnetic simulation leads to the fact that the width of the recorded track is affected by the frequency of recording, the core resistivity, and the subsequent transition pattern. These effects should therefore be considered in the design of track density.
