Abstract

An increased adenoma detection rate (ADR) at colonoscopy decreases the risk of postcolonoscopy colorectal cancer.1 Narrow-band imaging (NBI) is a blue-light technology that enhances visualization of superficial mucosal structures, especially superficial micro-capillaries.2 Adenomas have increased vascularity and in NBI look brown against a blue-green normal background mucosa, whereas serrated polyps are relatively hypovascular and look pale. The newly launched EVIS X1 endoscopy system provides images with a higher resolution and higher brightness, and thus could potentially improve polyp visibility.
