Abstract

We have previously proposed a prototype of a hands-on type user interface for intuitive and dexterous manipulation of articulated surgical instruments in transnasal endoscopic neurosurgery. The proposed user interface was designed to provide a surgeon with intuitiveness and safe operation of the surgical instruments based on a passive mechanism. In this paper, we present an experimental feasibility study of the proposed interface to evaluate the usability in performing dexterous manipulation tasks.
