Abstract

CENIBRA produces approximately 350, 000 ADT/year of bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp at their mill in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and all of their pulpwood is supplied by their company-owned eucalyptus forests of which the regular cutting period is seven years. The area of the company-owned forests is about 156, 000 ha as of January of 1994, out of which about 88, 000 ha is a planting area with 89.6% of E. grandis.The planting area occupies only the 50% level of the forest, because the protection of environment has resulted in leaving 20% of the forests as a forest reserve and in addition the forests located in the shores of rivers, lakes and swamps, and slopes as an eternally reserved forests. Also thoughtful consideration has been taken on native species of trees, birds and so on. Now, afforestation and environment protection has become an very important issue inseparable as Siamese twins.
