Abstract

An osseous choristoma occurring on the tongue of a Japanese 11-year-old girl is reported. The lesion was a polypous mass, measuring about 8×8×5 mm, in the centroposterior region of the tongue. The lesion was removed under general anesthesia.Histologically, the lesion consisted of dense lamellar bone with Haversian canals and bone marrow. It was surrounded by a thin layer of fibrous conective tissue and covered by stratified squamous epithelium. The origin of this lesion was discussed briefly, referring to the literature.
