Abstract

Though it is difficult to determine the generation time required for proliferation of the murine leprosy bacillus in the host because of the influence of complex inhibitory factors and growth factors of the host, it is possible to calculate a rough estimate of the number of days.The authors inoculated the mouse and rat intratesticularly with a constant number of murine leprosy bacillus, resected the testes after a set interval, emulsified the material, prepared smears, counted the number of organisms microscopically and obtained the following results. As shown in Fig. 1. 7.7 days were required for 1 generation in the mouse testes and 4-5.5 days were required in the rat, as can be seen in Figs. 2 and 3.
