Abstract
岐阜県大垣市において林業体験に参加していた小学1年生の女児が, 頭部にスギの落枝 (長さ3.5 m , 重さ5.4 kg) の直撃を受け死亡した。事故原因となった落枝は, こぶ病に罹患した生枝で, 最大瞬間風速約10 m/sの強風下, スギ大径木の地上高23 mの位置で折損したものであった。事故が発生した林分はスギとヒノキの混交する島状の人工林で, スギの大径木 (胸高直径 40 cm以上) の68%がこぶ病に罹患していた。同林分の林床では長さ1.5 mを超える大型の落枝が207本/ha記録された。すべての大型落枝はスギ大径木の5 m以内に落ちており, こぶ病に罹患した大径木の付近に集中分布していた。強風下, スギ大径木の直下では高い地点から大型の枝が折れ, 折損部を下方に向けて落下する可能性があるため非常に危険である。林冠木がこぶ病に罹患している場合, 林床に大型の落枝が多く認められる場合は, さらに警戒が必要といえた。
