Abstract

Quick method for non-destructive analysis of chlorine content in volcanic rocks is investigated with an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer using pressed powder samples. Calibration curve expressed as, y=0.0116c2+3.08c-225.0 (y: Cl ppm, c: X-ray intensity cps) was obtained on the basis of the measurements of 19 standard rock samples. The standard deviation (σ) is estimated to be around 73ppm. Using this method, CI content in 23 volcanic rock samples of Hakone Volcano was determined and negative relation between Cl and Si contents has been revealed.
