Abstract

Background: The dysfunction or loss of acetylcholine receptors (AChR) in the neuromuscular junction may have different causes. More frequently the cause is autoimmune (myasthenia gravis, MG) — which is associated with antibodies to AChR. Less commonly the disease is genetic (congenital myasthenic syndromes; CMS).
