Abstract

A 74-year-old Chinese man with a history of pure red cell aplasia on long-term prednisolone and cyclosporin presented with swelling and purulent discharge from the dorsum of his right hand after a cut a month earlier. The patient is a retired gardener but continued to garden at his home. He underwent surgical debridement of his right hand, during which necrotic tissue and hemopurulent discharge extending from the second to fifth metacarpophalangeal joints to his wrist were seen. The same type of mould was cultured from initial wound swabs and all subsequent tissue debridement.
