Abstract
The article provides information about the work of the VIII session of the Scientific Council on the problems of the history of music education. The subject of the scientific and pedagogical search of the researchers was the analysis in the historical aspect and in the light of modern demands of society of the problems and prospects for the education of gifted children in the conditions of special music schools. A brief analysis of the content of the session program is presented, which included two scientific events: the scientific conference "Special music schools for gifted children: history, modernity, prospects" and scientific seminar "History of music education: new research". The activity of the participants of the session of the Scientific Council, researchers of the history of music education was aimed at finding constructive ideas based on the analysis of the pedagogical experience of the past, which must be brought and used today.
