Abstract

Domestic work leaves no monuments. This is one dilemma which confronts Australians trying to balance gender representation in their country's historical museums. Roots of and possible remedies to the current exclusion of women are here explored by two authors. Margaret Anderson, founder of a South Australian museum of migration, currently teaches Australian studies and public history at Monash University. Kylie Winkworth is a freelance museum consultant, a lecturer on museum policy, and the editor of Museums Australia.
