Abstract

The article for the first time in Ukrainian historiography and museology considers the activities of the Czech scientist naturalist K. M. Šternberk in the field of museum work and monument protection. The author relied on periodical Czech publications, which are stored in the funds of the Vernadsky National Library of the NAS at Ukraine (including the Department of Library Collections and Historical Collections), the Scientific Library of the Institute of Archaeology of the NAS at Ukraine. Other publications are involved, which highlights the history of science in the Czech Republic during the XVIII—XIX centuries, which are also stored in the funds of the Yaroslav the Wise National Library of Ukraine and the author's personal library. Internet resources (sites of scientific and scientific and educational institutions (museums), higher educational institutions of the Czech Republic were used. Based on the analysis of printed publications, the role of K. Sternberg in the study and preservation of geological and paleontological monuments of the Czech Republic, the organization of the National Museum in Prague is shown. In the conclusion that the scientist laid the foundations of museum work and monument protection in the Czech Republic.
