Abstract

The paper presents a multiscale description of the inhomogeneity of gradient percolation structures of cast iron and banded structures of steel, based on a classical approach with a Hurst correlation. The method applied allows a description of the inhomogeneity of the structural components investigated without, however, evaluating the degree of inhomogeneity in mutually perpendicular directions. It is therefore not possible to identify the structural anisotropy. Taking into account the foregoing, a modified method of describing inhomogeneity is presented, based on an analysis of moments of inertia. The new method of describing inhomogeneity allows a precise evaluation of the degree of inhomogeneity of any type of gradient structure, taking account of the analysis of the directions' orthogonality.
