Abstract

AbstractA novel multiresonance slot antenna, for ultra‐wideband (UWB) applications is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a modified radiating patch a ground plane with four L‐shaped slots which provides a wide usable fractional bandwidth of more than 135% (2.89–14.53 GHz). By cutting four modified L‐shaped slot with variable dimensions on the corners of ground plane, additional resonances are excited and hence much wider impedance bandwidth can be produced, especially at the middle band unlike other antennas reported in the literature to date, the proposed antenna displays a good omnidirectional radiation pattern even at higher frequencies. The designed antenna has a small size of 35 × 35 mm2. Simulated and experimental results obtained for this antenna show that it exhibits good radiation behavior within the UWB frequency range. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
