Abstract

Regarding the idiopathic interstitial pneumonias: (a) Ground-glass opacification on high resolution CT is characteristic of usual interstitial pneumonitis (UIP). (b) Acute interstitial pneumonitis (AIP) has an average survival rate from onset of symptoms of approximately 2 years. (c) Complete recovery is possible in desquamative interstitial pneumonitis (DIP). (d) DIP is more common than non-specific interstitial pneumonitis (NSIP). (e) Air space consolidation is the predominant pattern of disease in AIP.
