Abstract

In my application of Possible Worlds Theory to Making History, the focus is on contradictory chapters and contradictory statements presented in the text. I show how these have specific functions within the text. The text makes an association between Adolf Hitler and a character named Rudi Gloder in TAW2. However, the text also complicates this association by presenting Rudi Gloder in a way that it challenges readers’ knowledge about Adolf Hitler. I show how the contradictory chapters presented facilitate the epistemological link between Hitler and Gloder, and the concept of RK-worlds reinforce this connection. In my analysis of the contradictory statements presented in the text, I show how Possible Worlds Theory can be used to explain how different characters in the text experience their textual actual worlds. Subsequently what this chapter offers is a more nuanced analysis of the text using Possible Worlds Theory.
