Abstract

Question: A 43-year-old woman who had been followed for ulcerative colitis (UC) was admitted to the gastroenterology department with a complaint of abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, and diarrhea for the previous 2 months. She had left-sided UC for 8 years and had never used steroids or any other immunosuppressive drugs. Previous and current medication included systemic and local mesalazine treatment. Physical examination was normal. Laboratory findings were normal other than mild anemia (hemoglobin, 10.3 g/dL) and high sedimentation rate (57 mm/h).
