Results: Using Research and Development with the ADDIE model, the study involved 18 Grade VII students, an Islamic Religious Education teacher, and school stakeholders. The developed product obtained very high material validity (98%) and design validity (97%), while practicality reached an average of 95.2%. Learning outcomes also improved, with the mean score increasing from 54 on the pretest to 80 on the posttest, an N-Gain of 0.534 in the moderate category, and mastery rising from 11% to 83%. Novelty: The study offers an integrative Value Clarification Technique model supported by interactive video and reflective value discussion specifically designed for Islamic Religious Education. Implications: This model provides a structured and contextual alternative for strengthening Islamic character awareness and the affective dimension of learning in junior secondary Islamic Religious Education. Highlights• Developed a multimedia-supported Value Clarification Technique model through the ADDIE stages for Grade VII Islamic Religious Education.• Achieved very high feasibility and usability, with 98% material validity, 97% design validity, and 95.2% practicality.• Recorded learning progress from a mean pretest score of 54 to 80, with N-Gain 0.534 and mastery rising from 11% to 83%. According to Law No. 20 of 2003, a curriculum is a set of plans and arrangements regarding the objectives, content and learning materials, as well as the methods used as guidelines for organizing activities to achieve certain educational goals. The curriculum's function in education is to create lesson plans, design and compile learning materials and objectives, as well as to ensure that learning is carried out effectively. To make learning effective, it is necessary to have the best formula in terms of curriculum content and substance. It will be relatively simple to implement when the curriculum's content and substance are easily digested by teachers and students. Islamic religious education has been a subject in every school, so its existence will be considerably complex, particularly on the material side and adjusting to the curriculum that has been applied. The Curriculum 2013 is a competency-based and character-based curriculum that is expected to improve learning and educational outcomes that are precisely targeted to students' character and morality, knowledge, personality, and implementation in everyday life. The 2013 curriculum includes at least three Islamic education values: Morals, Adab, and Exemplary. The Merdeka Curriculum is a response to the Covid-19 pandemic's missing lessons, often known as loss learning. According to the Ministry of Education and Culture's pocketbook, the Merdeka Curriculum is a curriculum with diverse intra-curricular learning where the content will be more ideal so that students have adequate time to explore concepts and strengthen competencies. Teachers have the freedom to select numerous teaching tools so that learning can be adapted to students' learning needs and interests. Projects to enhance Pancasila student profile success are designed based on government-determined themes. The project is not directed to achieving certain learning achievement targets, so it is not tied to subject content. Islamic education is available in both public and private schools. Islamic religious education aims to provide students with knowledge and understanding of faith, worship, morality, and muamalah. As a result, Islamic religious education provides guidance and attitudes toward religious practice in accordance with Islamic law. Islamic religious education develops individuals with character and excellent morality in students that can be implemented in everyday life. This study aims to compare the implementation of the 2013 Curriculum with the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum (Independent Learning Curriculum) in Islamic religious education learning. Case studies were used in this qualitative study. The sources used and the data collection techniques employed were library research, observation, and interviews. This study focused on Islamic religious education teachers at SMA Negeri 2 Tangerang Selatan City.

IRE teachers are the spearhead of success in learning religious education at schools. Curriculum changes will not have much impact on the quality of learning, if the quality of teachers is not improved. The strategy taken is to improve the performance and quality work of teachers, because the function of teachers are not only as an educator and facilitator, but also acts as an innovator in education. Innovators are not only means “changing but also presents something that is really new and able to make the old things become new existence in context to the present. So innovative teachers are required and have a good performance, not only physically but also responsibility and performance, so as to improve the quality of education and special learning in Islamic religious education. In Finland, religious education (RE) in public school is currently religion-based. Thus, pupils are enrolled in RE classes, according to their religious affiliation. There is usually one RE lesson a week in comprehensive school (age 7 to 16). RE is not a confessional subject. The RE curriculum, like that of other subjects, is prepared by the Board of Education. In recent years, Finnish society has changed considerably, becoming increasingly pluralistic and diverse. The number of immigrants and refugees has also increased, e.g., there are currently more than 60,000 Muslims, who represent heterogeneous ways to practice their faith. The number of pupils who participate in Islamic RE is continuously increasing. Today there are more than 9,000 pupils enrolled in Islamic RE. There is a lack of Islamic RE teachers and no established pedagogical practices. There has been an extensive societal debate in Finland as to how RE should be organized in public schools with very different approaches regarding Islamic RE perspective. It has been stated that Islamic RE enables pupils to form their own identity and that it fails to teach pupils common values of society. The chapter consists of two different parts. The first part analyzes the Finnish Islamic RE curricula and studies its development (aims and contents) over the past 20 years (1994, 2004, and 2014). The second part focuses on the challenges that Islamic RE teachers experience in their work, drawing on analyses and interpretations of theme-focused interviews with teachers. It concludes with a summary of recent Islamic RE development work and an investigation of the available Islamic RE teacher training options and the types of competencies that Islamic RE teacher training should encompass.

Religious moderation has become an urgent issue in Indonesia’s educational context, particularly in fostering tolerance and preventing radicalism among students. Schools play a crucial role in shaping students’ perspectives on religious diversity, with Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers serving as key agents in instilling moderation values. However, the implementation of religious moderation in schools faces various challenges, including curriculum constraints, sociocultural influences, and students’ diverse backgrounds. This study aims to analyze the specific strategies employed by IRE teachers in fostering religious moderation, the challenges they encounter, and the impact of their efforts on students. Using a qualitative research method with a social phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving IRE teachers and students in a senior high school in Banten, Indonesia. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify recurring patterns and key themes related to religious moderation practices. The findings indicate that IRE teachers implement religious moderation through interactive teaching methods, interfaith dialogues, and role-modeling behaviors that emphasize tolerance and balance. However, challenges such as limited institutional support, resistance from certain groups, and a lack of comprehensive training hinder the effectiveness of these efforts. Despite these obstacles, the study highlights the positive influence of IRE teachers in fostering an inclusive and harmonious school environment. The implications of this research suggest the need for more structured teacher training programs, curriculum adjustments to integrate religious moderation effectively, and policy support from educational institutions. These findings contribute to the broader discourse on religious moderation and provide practical recommendations for improving Islamic education in diverse learning environments.
