Abstract

The direct sequence spread spectrum multiple access (DS/SSMA) scheme has attracted much interest for commercial applications such as digital cellular radio and personal communications because of the possibility of achieving larger capacity than FDMA or TDMA. Multidimensional trellis-coded modulation (multi-D TCM) is applied to a DS/SSMA system in a Rayleigh fading channel. New models of multi-spread spectrum and multi-correlation reception at the transmitter and receiver are proposed. Based on these models we study the performance of multi-D TCM DS/SSMA systems in a Rayleigh fading channel. The simulation results show that the performance of DS/SSMA system is greatly improved by using multi-D TCM compared with DS/SSMA systems with traditional TCM of Ungerboeck's (1982) type.
