Abstract

An analysis of the control variables and the optimization of a multicomponent batch distillations campaign with constant reflux ratio has been presented. This optimization is extended to a variable reflux ratio. Many authors did not find significant gains when using a variable reflux ratio during recycling but the recycled cuts were mixed with the initial feed. This optimization of a campaign is extended to a variable reflux ratio. In this example, the gain in production rate by using a variable reflux ratio is significant if one limits the mix of cuts of different compositions.
