Abstract

A planar multi-beam microstrip antenna (MSA) array with low SLL is presented in this paper. The beam forming network is integrated with a 11x5 MSA array to form a low profile multi-beam antenna array design. Each linear array is fed by multiple meandered feed lines, which provide desired phase shift for beam-forming. The multi-beam antenna elements are tapered with binomial distribution to suppress SLL below -20dB in the E-Plane. The array generates five beams and the individual gain of the beams are 14, 15, 14.5, 14.4, 12 dBi at 3.42 GHz. The <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\vert S_{11}\vert \leq\boldsymbol{-10\text{dB}}$</tex> impedance bandwidth of all the ports is from 3.3-3.5 GHz and the isolation between consecutive ports is better than 20 dB for most of the bandwidth.
