Abstract

The energy transfer of homogeneous scalar turbulence is studiednumerically by triad interaction in spectral space. The differenttransfer properties between turbulent kinetic energy and turbulentscalar energy reveal that non-local energy transfer exists asimportant as the local energy transfer in scalar turbulence. Thenon-local energy transfer of scalar turbulence results from non-localtriad interaction. As a result there will be longer inertia-convectiverange in scalar turbulence than the inertial subrange in turbulentkinetic transfer at Reλ = Peλ. The non-localtransfer of turbulent scalar energy generates more energy transfer intodissipation range. The discovery of non-local transfer of turbulentscalar energy indicates that this phenomenon should be concernedcarefully in numerical scheme and subgrid modelling of direct numericalsimulation or large eddy simulation scalar turbulence.
