One important aspect of transportation is mode choice. This mode selection is an important step in transportation planning and plays a key role in determining transportation policy, especially related to the type of mode and infrastructure available. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the selection of online and conventional public transportation modes by people in Nganjuk Regency, using questionnaires distributed to people in Nganjuk Regency and data processing using the help of the SPSS application. This study also measures how much influence the variables of tariff, ease of obtaining transportation modes, service quality, availability of transportation modes, and travel time have on the selection of transportation modes in Nganjuk Regency. From the results of data processing obtained through questionnaires that have been distributed to 400 respondents in Nganjuk Regency, obtained, namely tariffs, ease of obtaining transportation modes, service quality, availability of transportation modes, and travel time. Then for the magnitude of the influence of these variables on the selection of online public transportation modes by 50% and conventional public transportation modes is 82%.

<p>The mode of transportation is a means of connecting used by workers and students to be able to help with all daily activities. The development of transportation modes is increasingly significant with the addition of wider technological sophistication, so that there are more and more diverse types of transportation modes. The purpose of this research is to determine the factors that have the most influence on the choice of mode and provide more effective decisions among workers and students in the selection of public transportation modes to be used. In this research, the decision support system (DSS) method is used, namely the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and elimination et choix traduisant la reality (ELECTRE) by performing multi-criteria calculations that compare the criteria and alternatives. Where the results obtained in this research is that the most influential factor in the selection of transportation modes among workers is time efficiency with a weight of 25.9 %, while the influential factor for students is cost which produces a weight of 30.7 %. The most effective and efficient alternative mode of transportation among workers is Go-Jek Bike, while for students it is Transmetro Deli.</p>

A national industrial distribution association approached us to develop a case study for its association members. The national association assumed responsibility for identifying educational needs of upper level, mid level, and lower level personnel in the industry. In the previous year, a case study had been developed to educate upper level managers in the strategic nature of distribution in their industry. The association found that upper level management had a great learning experience and wanted lower level workers to have the same opportunity to refine and enhance their knowledge on making inventory and warehousing decisions. The project objective was to develop a case study that would be used in a weekend workshop to educate operations and customer service personnel involved in making logistics-related decisions. The mid level operations and customer service personnel were to attend a two-day workshop to learn basic terminology, analyze the case study, and refine their current knowledge surrounding their job duties.
 This article describes the process of developing a case study for a national trade association and integrating learning opportunities for undergraduate technology students at Purdue University. The needs assessment phase of this project became an Inventory and Warehouse Management course project. The educational goal for the weekend industrial workshop, based on the case study, was to accomplish the following:
 
 Be valuable for companies with $5 million to $400 million in sales.
 Address the environment where employees typically handle 3,000 to 8,000 stock-keeping units.
 Teach the attendees in a highly participative setting.
 Incorporate small group activities.
 
 The educational materials to be developed for the weekend workshop were a new case study, workbook, supporting reading materials, PowerPoint presentation, glossary of common terms, and an evaluation instrument.
 The topic areas to be covered in the case study and the weekend workshop were:
 
 Inventory management and control.
 Product backorder and returned goods.
 Facility selection and layout.
 New product introduction.
 Order fulfillment routines.
 Selection of transportation modes.
 Multiple branch issues.
 New technology adoption.
 Human resource management.
 Key productivity measures.

To remain competitive and respond to rapidly changing markets, we need to increase flexibility in today's global marketplace. In this respect, the selection of the appropriate mode of transport is one of the most important functions to be performed by logistics. The selection of the appropriate mode of transport is a multi-criteria problem involving both quantitative and qualitative criteria. This paper deals with the selection of the mode of transport using the Analytic Hierarchy Process method (AHP). AHP is a method of decomposing a complex unstructured situation into simpler components to create a hierarchical system problem. This paper describes a general model of selection of transport mode using AHP including its application to a manufacturing company that selects the appropriate mode of transport from three potential transport modes. The aim of this paper is to create a useful decision support tool for selection of the transport mode using the AHP method within distribution logistics of motor fuels. This tool helps companies to make the right decision on the choice of transport mode by taking into account different importance of the different criteria that influence the decision-making process.

Industrial Revolution 4.0 opens opportunities as well as challenges for an industry, the opportunity is to develop market share to be broader with the internet while the challenges are conventional methods that need to be changed to become easier because of the needs of consumers to keep up with the times. These changes have an impact on the economic field, especially business. Not only globally, Indonesia also experienced a lifestyle change in consuming products and services that are currently not free from the use of internet platforms. Transportation services are currently one of the industries that are undergoing rapid changes. The reduced interest of passengers using conventional transportation has caused transportation modes to lose the market share that they have had for a long time, which also has an impact on the sales they get. The purpose of this study is to analyze the decision to use public transportation modes by millennial generation passengers. This study used a survey method and case study design with a qualitative approach. The population and sample in this study are consumers using public transport services aged 18-37 years or millennial generations. The results of this study explain that millennial passengers prefer online transportation modes than conventional transportation modes. If conventional transportation wants to remain competitive in this industry, they are likely to need to cooperate with the private sector as well as the government as a regulator by making rival applications as a competitive advantage.

This paper concerns the problem of decision making on the selection of public transportation modes. The problem is formulated through sustainability indicators and the objective framework is based upon AHP-TOPSIS. In this research, the city of Isfahan (Iran) is our case study. The definition of different points of view was developed through interviews to stakeholders, experts in transportation and urban planning as well as end-users. In this regard, feasible alternatives of public transport modes, such as Metro, Tramway (Light Rapid Transit) Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Regular Bus (RB) were compared for demand corridors with similar characteristics and operating conditions. Besides, different aspects and criteria of sustainable transportation including economic, social and environmental dimensions are taken into consideration. Our findings address different orders of desirability and the suitability of public transport modes. In the view of end-users, Metro and Tramway are the most desirable modes due chiefly to service quality factors such as minimal travel time and comfort-ability. However, the local government is more interested to reduce total costs and therefore, the recommended alternatives are BRT and RB. To consolidate these results, an interview is conducted; city council members as well as senior experts in traffic and transportation fields are surveyed.

Transport volume in the Slovak Republic is growing continuously every year. This rising trend is influenced by the development of car industry and its suppliers. Slovak republic has also a geographic strategy position in middle Europe from the side of transport corridors (east-west and north-south). The development of transport volume in freight transport depends on the transport and business processes between the European Union and China and it is an opportunity for Slovak republic to obtain transit transport flows.In the Slovak Republic, road transport has a dominant position in the transport market. The volume of road transport has gradually increased over the past years. The increase of road transport is reflected on the highways and speed roads in regions which have higher economic potential. The increase of rail transport as seen on the main rail corridors is not as significant as in road transport. Trade globalization also has an influence on the increase of transport volume in intermodal transport. Predicted increase in transport volume for this transport mode is from 2,3 mil ton per year at present to 8 mil ton in the year 2020. Selection of transport mode and carrier is an important aspect for logistic management, because companies (customers) want to reduce the number of carriers which they trade and they create the system of several key carriers. Bigger transport volume and more qualitative transport service give a possibility to reduce transport costs. This trend is positive for carriers too, because the carriers can focus only on the selected customers and provide more qualitative services.The paper is focused on the selection of transport mode based on the proposed methodology. The aims of the paper are, definition of criteria which directly influence the selection of transport modes, determination of criteria based on the subjectively methods, creation of process for the selection of transport modes and practical application of proposed methodology.

Problems of energy consumption are of great importance in all sectors of our life, including transport. This is evident just in the current situation in Europe. Road and rail transport belongs to major consumers of oil products, which causes extensive pressure on the environment, in particular by emissions produced directly by vehicles with internal combustion engines or indirectly in case of electric traction vehicles. Various parameters of different transport modes were compared for passenger transport using diesel engines were compared in this article. Power consumption and travel time belong to the main factors influencing selection of transport mode. In the study, the comparison was performed by calculation of travel times, energy consumption and CO2 emissions for road and rail vehicles used in selected regions in Slovakia. Purpose Supply chain management has become critical in today’s globalized environment, with growingly intense competition on the international level. The particular characteristics of modern trade have led companies to globalize and devise increasingly sophisticated supply chains to meet customer demand worldwide. Motivated by the need to address these challenges, we have developed a new model for a global supply chain that incorporates uncertainties in exchange rates, demand fluctuations, and the quantity of produce. Design/methodology/approach The objective of the proposed model is to maximize supply chain profitability. Our model optimizes several critical decisions in the proposed global supply chain, including the location of domestic and foreign distribution centers, allocating the centers to customers, transportation mode selection, storage temperature, optimal farm purchase quantities, product flows across the network, and the shelf-life of products. Scenario-based stochastic programming approach is employed to account for the inherent uncertainties within the model. A pistachio supply chain is examined as a case study in this article, and the efficiency of the proposed model is demonstrated through computational results. Findings The model was solved using the CPLEX solver in GAMS and the results, the Sirjan DDC and Turkey FDC have been selected. In general, 40% of demand for customers from FDC (turkey) and 60% of demand from DDC (sirjan) is provided. Changes in the demand of foreign customers make the net profit more effective than changes in the demand for domestic customers. The decrease in exchange rate decreases the network profit with a higher slope and the increase in exchange rate will increase network profit with a relatively stable slope. Originality/value While research on GSCs for perishable products has been ongoing for several years, the importance of the subject necessitates continued investigation in this area. This paper aimed to address this gap by presenting an optimization model for designing GSCs for perishable products under uncertainty and with various transportation modes. The proposed model was designed with the aim of improving supply chain performance and real-world applicability.

Fleet planning problems in intermodal transportation represent one of the most important problems in logistics. In addition to the integration of various sub-problems interrelated at different planning levels, i.e., strategic, tactical, and operational, the inclusion of multiple modes, resources, and multiple actors in intermodal transportation systems makes fleet planning more complex in comparison with unimodal systems. The present paper proposes a holistic fleet planning approach, which integrates various decisions such as freight planning (transport mode, service type and route selection), fleet composition and allocation, empty vehicle repositions, fleet expansion/reduction and outsourcing. A comprehensive mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model is developed for an international logistics company, which operates a large intermodal network in Europe. The computational results of the case study have shown that application of a reallocation strategy may provide cost reduction up to 10% for the logistics company. Considering the existing situation of the company, outsourcing can be reduced up to 30%, and fleet utilization can be increased by 5% by applying the proposed model. The extensive case study also shows that effective and efficient fleet plans can be generated through the proposed MILP model.

In carrying out the daily movement of man from one place to another requires a mode of transportation. In this context, the ownership and use of private and public vehicles can be said to be one of the alternatives for society in meeting the demands of the movement. Specifically in the travel pattern there is information about the characteristics of the traveler and the type of activity of the individual or person per person. Jimbaran area as a tourist area and synonymous with educational institutions and campuses, of course there are many tourist attractions and campuses, one of which is the Bali State Polytechnic. Along with this, research on the preference behavior of the use of student transportation vehicles, aims to analyze the choice of modes on daily trips to PNB, using the Analytic Hierarchy Process method with expert choice software version 11. to find out the most influential factors. The instrument includes a questionnaire form as well as conducting observations and direct interviews with the PNB academic community to identify the characteristics of the PNB academic community in the selection of transportation modes, analyzing the factors that most influence the use of transportation modes, both private vehicles and public vehicles. The results showed that the first priority for undergraduate students at the criteria level was the criteria for getting the highest weight of 36.4% followed by the cost criteria of 34.1%, and finally the safe criteria of 2 9.5%, with an inconsistency value of 0.00096 . From the results of the expert assessment through the questionnaire given, the alternative mode of transportation chosen was motorcycles by 46.4% as the first alternative in the selection of transportation modes, followed by private cars by 35.7% and finally public transportation by 17.9%.

With the environment concern increasing, corporations are facing new challenges on carbon management in supply chain network. In this paper, environmental consideration is introduced to traditional supply chain management, and the sustainable supply chain (SSC) is designed considering carbon footprint. We develop a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model to get the optimal decisions on partner selection, technology selection, and transportation mode selection, as well as material procurement, product supply, and recovery mode. For validating the model, a beverage company in China is used. We also analyze the impact of supply chain uncertainties such as carbon emission price and recovery rate of returned products on the decision of SSC design.
