Abstract

The rate of pediatric urolithiasis is low. Previously we demonstrated that urinary macromolecules (UMMs) of child urine, including many glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), have calcium oxalate (CaOX) aggregation and adhesion to renal tubular cell of CaOX crystal. To investigate the CaOX urolithiasis formation mechanism, we evaluated the difference in the protection of renal tubular epithelial cell injury and the inhibitory activity of crystal-cell interaction of UMMs between children and adults.
