Abstract

If we understand the intent of Dr Colloca's letter, it would seem that his overall message is that he agrees with our critique of motion palpation 1 Troyanovich SJ Harrison DD Harrison DE Commentary. Motion palpation: it's time to accept the evidence. J Manipulative Physiol Ther. 1998; 21: 568-571 PubMed Google Scholar but takes exception to a passing remark that includes Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique's (AMCT) isolation tests of leg alignment reactivity as one of the assessment procedures in use in chiropractic that lacks face validity. Rather than examine our commentary, Dr Colloca seeks to find fault with another article we published elsewhere. 2 Troyanovich SJ Harrison DD The reliability and validity of chiropractic assessment procedures. Chiropr Technique. 1996; 8: 10-13 Google Scholar Dr Colloca also seems to imply that we specialize in a “we can dish it out, but we can't take it” attitude and then does indeed attack us in an ad hominem fashion. He seems to believe that his last paragraph absolves him of any wrongdoing regarding this attack on our character. Although the issues he raises would have been more appropriately handled as a letter to the editor of Chiropractic Technique, we believe that Dr Colloca is attempting to circumnavigate the peer-review process by getting a letter to the editor into the indexed literature regarding what he would have us believe about the validity of isolation tests and leg length tests. As a result, we are pleased to respond to Dr Colloca's concerns, and despite the fact that he has attacked our character, we shall elect to stick to the facts.
