Abstract

Moral development theory focuses on the shift in morality within individuals as they mature emotionally, socially, and cognitively over the course of their lifetime. Discussions about moral development typically include the contributions of Jean Piaget and Lawrence Kohlberg and their theories of stage development. Despite receiving much criticism about his six‐stage theory of moral development, Kohlberg's work continues to serve as a foundational element within moral development research and classroom practices.
