Abstract
Aggregation is not a fate! Replacing silica surface silanols with silanes allows [Ru(cod)(cot)] to be grafted by a covalent RuSi bond, which avoids the growth of metal particles during treatment under H2 at 300 °C. This affords supported mononuclear Ru hydride species, which display catalytic properties different from those of supported Ru particles (2 nm), selectively hydrogenating alkenes over aromatic compounds. cod=cyclooctadiene, cot=cyclooctatriene.
