Abstract

Heart failure (HF) patients experiencing a volume overload decompensation carry a high risk of death and re-hospitalisation. Daily body weight (BW) is the mainstay of volume management in HF follow-up. In patients with an implantable defibrillator (ICD) volume status can be monitored by intrathoracic impedance (Z). We hypothesized that significant changes in Z was more accurate in predicting episodes of congestive heart failure (CHF) than BW.
