Abstract

Abstract For Mongolia, the 1990s have been years of search for identity, development of different perspectives, formulation of policy and preparation for the next century. The starting point of its journey, at the beginning of the 1990s, involved ideological collapse and economic turmoil. After decades of unilateral policy, Mongolia rushed to formulate its national security, foreign policy and military doctrine, taking account of international developments, based on principles of international affairs. In 1992, in order to contribute to disarmament and trust in the region and globally, Mongolia declared its territory a nuclear weapon-free zone. Since then various measures and activities have been launched to achieve institutionalization of this status in its concept of foreign affairs.
