Abstract

Reabsorption of sodium, is metabolically the most demanding process in the kidney. It makes sense therefore, that pathophysiology would involve salt wasting. Routine tests of kidney function, highlight glomerular functions(eGFR and proteinuria), so tubulointerstitial disease may be overlooked. Careful clinical history taking makes it possible to recognise such patients and using a refined questionnaire, we looked to determine the prevalence of salt wasting nephropathy(SWN) in primary care.
