Abstract
Haemotropic mycoplasmas (haemoplasmas) are obligate epierythrocytic bacteria that infect awide range ofvertebrate hosts. The molecular characterisation ofMycoplasma organisms indogs has not previously been attempted from India. Hence, inthe present study, the molecular characterisation ofMycoplasma spp. indogs ofdifferent zones ofKerala was attempted using 16S rRNA gene. Anoverall prevalence of18% for M.haemocanis was detected. The NCBI-BLAST analysis ofall the selected sequences revealed >99% identity with the sequences ofM.haemocanis. The phylogenetic analysis revealed clustering ofM.haemocanis and M.haemofelis inasingle clade indicating low genetic variability. Itwas further supported bythe genetic distance data and haplotype analysis.
