Abstract

We demonstrate that it is possible to mold the flow of an electromagnetic (EM) beam in a magnetic photonic crystal by the application of a nonuniform external static magnetic field (ESMF). The beam bending can be understood and explained by analyzing the isofrequency (IF) curves. The effect of the ESMF on the shape and size of the IF curves enables the manipulation of the group velocity of the beam, resulting in the bending of the EM beam and creating a mirage effect.
