Abstract

The moisture absorption of electrosmelted periclase powders as a function of various factors has been studied. It is established that periclase with a smaller concentration of impurity oxides (of the purest types of raw material) has the greater tendency to absorb moisture. The concentration up to 2.2% of CaO in the periclase powder does not have any bad affects on the moisture absorption. A decrease in the specific surface of the powder significantly lowers moisture absorption. The addition of HAS and heat treatment reduce moisture absorption of periclase. The greatest reduction of moisture absorption is achieved with the combined addition of this additive and heat treatment. The results obtained can be used to solve the problem of further improving the production process for electrosmelted periclase powders.
