Abstract
A modified rf interferometer which produces a direct measurement of the phase difference between a test wave signal and a reference wave signal is described. With this instrument the relative phase change can be continuously observed as some other experimental parameter is varied. The instrument is capable of measuring a total phase change of 240 rad. We have used this interferometer to measure small variations in the wavelength of a nonlinear electron plasma wave.
