The initial ease of internet use has led to new challenges, one of which is the phenomenon of cyberloafing. Cyberloafing refers to the activity of accessing the internet during learning processes. The aim of this study is to modify the cyberloafing scale within an educational setting in Indonesia using the dimensions of sharing, shopping, real-time updating, accessing online content, and gaming/gambling. The modifications include contextualizing the original and adding new relevant items. Data collection was conducted using purposive sampling, involving 235 university students from various higher education institutions in Indonesia. The method used to test the validity of the cyberloafing model was confirmatory factor analysis. The results showed that out of 65 items, 20 were found to be valid, with a satisfactory total Cronbach’s alpha of 0.73-0.93 and McDonald’s omega of 0.71-0.93 for measuring reliability for each dimension of cyberloafing. The practical implication of this measurement tool is that it can be used to assess the intensity of cyberloafing among higher education students in Indonesia

How Private Higher Education Institutions in Indonesia Changed Their Marketing Mix amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • Jan 31, 2022
  • International Journal of Educational Management and Innovation
  • Andamar Pradipta

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected industries to amass consumers, with the education industry not being an exception. For-profit higher education institutions (HEIs) in Indonesia were forced to rethink their marketing strategies amidst COVID-19 restrictions and a changing economy. Five private HEIs from four different cities in Indonesia have been the subjects of this study, focusing on how parents' demands and the pandemic drove changes in these HEIs' 7P marketing mix. In-depth interviews were conducted with representatives of these HEIs' marketing teams. It was found that three of the seven Ps in the HEIs, as mentioned above,' marketing mix, were changed (price, promotion, and process). It was concluded that Indonesian HEIs bear a distinct producer-consumer relationship that hinders patrons from making demands as freely as they would with other types of services. Future research should then look into this newly-discovered producer-consumer dynamic in other levels of education.

  • Muhammad Qomarul Huda + 3 more

Implementing IT innovation in organizations is a complex and challenging process that affects organizational problems. The process involves many interacting factors and actors; hence this situation is difficult to control. This problem demonstrates the need to understand researchers' perceptions of IT adoption and implementation. This study aims to explore in depth the adoption and implementation of self-development IT applications (SDIT) in Islamic-based Higher Education Institution (IHEI) in Indonesia. The IT Adoption and Implementation Framework (Irawan et al., 2018) was applied as a lens to investigate the case. We conducted in-depth interviews with key informants involved during the adoption and implementation process in the organization. Interviews were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis. Certain Focus Group Discussion (FGD) studies and specific interviews with key informants representing three levels of management explained that mediating factors such as post-implementation interventions, subjective norms, and facilitating conditions influence success in adopting and implementing IT innovations in such cases. This study concludes that managerial interventions play an important role in reducing resistance from authoritarian approaches to mandating use and serve as a determinant of its sustainability in the future. These findings have significant implications for understanding how to achieve success in IT adoption and implementation in the post-implementation phase by providing empirical evidence. Theoretically, this study contributes to IT adoption and implementation frameworks by identifying the active role of critical actors in the adoption and implementation of IT applications in higher education institutions.

  • International Journal of Advanced Computer Science and Applications
  • Ardhian Agung Yulianto + 1 more

In this study, we developed a data warehouse (DW) system for tuition-fee-level management for higher education institutions (HEI) in Indonesia. The system was developed to provide sufficient information to the administrators for decision making of tuition fees of applicants by integrating multisource data. A simple but sufficient method was introduced using the open-source following the business requirements of HEI’s administrator. As a business intelligence (BI) approach, four procedures are applied e.g., preparation, integration, analysis, and visualization to construct a tuition-fee-level management system. The DW demonstrate four basic dimensions (faculty, year, entrant type, and tuition fee level) in all seven dimensions and three data regarding applicants, tuition fee level, and payment status. Analytical results were tuition fee level trends, top five faculty by applicants, and fees collected from the student trends. Those analysis results were presented in various charts and graphics contained at a dashboard of tuition fee level, which has many functions to provide insight relative to the business performance. The DW system described in this paper can be used as a guideline for tuition-fee-level management for HEIs in Indonesia.

  • Farida Nursjanti + 2 more

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on various fields, including the field of higher education. During Covid-19, online learning is widely used for addressing closed higher education institutions. Over 90% of countries have implemented a remote learning policy to deal with the pandemic. Impact of Covid-19 impact on state and private higher education institutions in Indonesia and their policies were examined. Indonesia’s higher education institutions have adopted various policies to effectively continue their on-line education and learning according to the guidelines of government and local governments. Particularly the present study focuses on the universities that have the geography education department. Some of these geography department of the universities quickly adapt courses to the on-line situation, while others need time to adapt. Several barriers have occurred, such as limited ICT mastery for some lecturers and students, ineffective online learning, limited internet access for some students and financial difficulties for some students. In response to these problems, some higher education institutions provided guidance to lecturers and students, encouraged lecturers for effective online courses, enhanced online education facilities and media, and offered assistance to students through reduced tuition costs and internet quotas. On the basis of the hybrid teaching allowance granted by the Ministry of Education and Culture, hybrid learning trial have been carried out by some government higher education institutions. Much needs to be taken into account: the local government policies in accordance with the current situation in Covid 19; the different higher education institutions conditions; the different backgrounds and characteristics of students, and all the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Culture. In particular with regard to mutual safety, most students had still to be immunized, which remains a separate barrier to this. Higher education institutions in Indonesia needs to prepare very carefully for learning through hybrid learning, both at the preparation stage, during implementation, and at the monitoring stage, especially due to the increase in Covid-19 cases in mid of 2021. All higher education institutions policies and activities, especially hybrid learning, need to be carefully considered and prioritize the safety of students, education staff and the community.

Private and academic institutions are embracing E-learning as an attempt to improve the learning process, encourage knowledge transfer and compliment their existing learning environment. For many countries with a large population, limited resources and remote geographical areas like Indonesia, E-learning holds the key to better education and provide better access to knowledge resources. E-learning is still new in Indonesia and there are not many studies reported in the literature. This study aimed to provide some ideas about the state of E-learning in Indonesia, specifically in higher education institutions. A survey was carried out to reveal the state of E-learning in higher education institutions in Indonesia. Sample of the population consists of lecturers, developers and researchers who work for higher education institutions in Indonesia. While the study showed that most of the E-learning projects are new and the level of participation is slow, the quality of E-learning courses is perceived as fair. As E-learning development in Indonesia is still in its early stages, serious efforts are needed to facilitate E-learning in higher institutions. The study identified infrastructure problems and staffs' reluctance to adopt E-learning as the main problems for the slow implementation and adoption of E-learning. Despite these problems, E-learning is expected to gain momentum in Indonesia as it is perceived as an effective way to educate the population of Indonesia.

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the disclosure of Sustainability Reports (SR) on the Sustainability Performance (SP) of Educational Institutions in Indonesia. By focusing on a sample of 138 higher education institutions (HEIs) registered with UI Green Metric, the research seeks to determine which aspects of sustainability reporting are significant predictors of sustainability performance within these institutions. Methods/approaches: This study uses quantitative techniques to test hypotheses, with descriptive statistical analysis as the first step in the data analysis process. Results: The results showed that only the aggregate disclosure of sustainability reports, the disclosure of general dimensions and the disclosure of environmental dimensions affected the sustainability performance of HEIs, while the disclosure of the economic dimension, and the disclosure of the social dimension did not affect the sustainability performance of HEIs. Practical and Theoretical/Originality Contributions: This research provides insights to improve the transparency and accountability of higher education institutions in Indonesia through sustainability reporting, as well as applying legitimacy theory to explain under-researched reporting models. These findings enrich the academic literature and provide guidance for policy in higher education institutions. Research Limitations: The limitations of this study include the use of a sample that covers only 138 universities in Indonesia, which may limit the generalization of results for other higher education institutions outside this context. In addition, this study only considers the disclosure dimension of sustainability reports and does not consider external factors or other internal policies that may affect sustainability performance.
