Abstract

One of the main objectives of treatment of diabetes mellitus in children is to achieve compensation of carbohydrate metabolism in order to prevent development of long-term complications and increase quality of life. Applying insulin analogs, insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring systems has considerably expanded capabilities for diabetes control. Reviewed in this article are current data on target values for metabolic control in children with type 1 diabetes and means of achieving those values.
