Abstract

Photographic images of cathode areas of moderate-pressure glow discharges with foamy electrolytic cathodes are presented in this paper. A stationary discharge with the foamy cathode has been obtained for an aqueous solution of CuSO4 near its boiling threshold. A dynamic glow discharge with the foamy cathode has been obtained for an aqueous solution of NaHCO3. The foam in this case is formed at the expense of CO2 bubbles released in the solution. In both cases, the discharge leans on a “3-D cathode spot” having the finite volume.
