Abstract

The contemporary context of labor relations has stimulated more research emphasizing the individual, within the field of study of the Administration. Those studies cover both behavior (exe. career and cognitive styles) and the role of professionals in companies and in the labor market (exe. the entrepreneur). Considering this context and a certain scarcity of works that relate the two theoretical concepts, specifically emphasizing the entrepreneur, both in Brazil and abroad, the objective of this work is to verify the relations between Contemporary Career Models and Cognitive Styles for the entrepreneurs, testing three hypotheses formulated based on theoretical reference. The research was carried out with 113 entrepreneurs belonging to the Macro Metropolitan region of Sao Paulo and used validated questionnaires for the three theoretical models. For data analyses, we used descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (association tests), always considering the type of variable tested. The study is still exploratory. Not all hypotheses have been confirmed. However, the results support reflections on the practical interaction between factors of the theoretical career models and the possibility of analyze the innovative style as part of the entrepreneur profile. The findings of this study add new discussions to other works carried out in Brazil and abroad. As an additional contribution, this work begins the reflection on the possible influence of contingent factors (corporate characteristics, social and cultural aspects) on characteristics of individuals’ behavior reflected in career and their style.
