Abstract

It is well known that following the onset of fluid flow over endothelial cells (ECs) they polarize and elongate in the direction of the flow. Here the cell is described using a continuum approximation and viewed as a passive object. This is the first step to a broader model incorporating a mathematical description of the signal transduction network of interacting molecules which govern the morphological change involving internal cellular structures such as the cytoskeleton.
