Abstract

Doppler reflectometry is an experimental technique used for density turbulence studies in fusion plasmas. In this thesis, the technique is investigated analytically, numerically and experimentally. The understanding obtained is applied for an advanced characterization of turbulence on the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak and the TJ-II stellarator. A new measurement method of the tilting of turbulent structures has been developed and applied in the confinement region for the first time. This has allowed innovative comparisons with physical models and simulations.
