Abstract

Wood is a hygroscopic material, the service life and the durability of wooden structures is closely related to the moisture content. Forecasting the moisture diffusion in wood structures is significant to avoid affecting the bearing capacity and limiting the biological attack such as mold, termites causing structural damage. Various methods are used to simulate the diffusion of moisture in wood structures. The finite difference method shows its superiority in 1 or 2-dimensional moisture diffusion modelisation in terms of processing time as well as accuracy. The paper applies the finite difference method to simulate the unidirectional moisture diffusion in wood structures, modeled by VBA software. The finite difference model is verified by the comparison of the analytical method and the finite element method.
