Abstract

This paper presents the modeling of a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) implemented in PSCAD/EMTDC for steady and transient regimes applying equivalent electrical circuits. The model considers the activation, concentration and ohmic losses, dissipated as heat, of a PEMFC fuel cell, as well its thermodynamic behavior. In addition, this paper reviews the key concepts related to fuel cells, their operating mode and applications. Simulations are carried out under different load conditions to analyze the PEMFC model response, as well as series and parallel associations to increase the power supply. The results obtained from the model simulations are compared to experimental data retrieved from the literature.
